There has been a lot in the beekeeping press about managing varroa without treatments, sometimes over concerns that the mites are b ecoming resistant to chemical applications. Tonight we have a talk from Tricia & Alan Nelson about going treatment free, which we expect to engender a lot of discussion. In fact we want to garner a good debate to help decide whether to treat or not !
Alan and Tricia Nelson, Master Beekeepers since 2015, have successfully kept between 30 and 35 colonies across 6 apiaries on the coast West Somerset. Their present project is about finding the best way to move away from using varroacides. They are both members of the Devon Apicultural Research Group and are active in education, having run workshops at the Spring Convention, and Somerset lecture day.
