Invitation to Bee Day on 20 May
International Bee Day is on this Saturday 20th May and we shall be celebrating at the apiary for our summer get together. Our annual celebration will, of course, include the cake competition – you can make anything or buy whatever you like to put on the table, but no honey in the cake please. We shall also have a glass of mead to toast the bees. All members are invited. Attractant for Asian Hornets is also available for members to take. We shall start about 3.30pm after we close up the hives. Kindly park in Broadfields and walk in. Do bring a mug for your tea.
Looking forward to getting together for cakes, a toast and a bit of banter !
Asian Hornet
There has been an alert to be vigilant for Asian Hornets this year. Two credible reporting have been made on the south coast and in Northumberland, plus a confirmed sighting in Folkestone. If you would like to set a trap we have attractant at the apiary for members. Just bring a small container on Saturday to take some home. We have this type of trap at the apiary, available from leading suppliers, or you can make your own using plastic bottles. The main point being the small jar contains the attractant which soaks up into the cloth inserted in it. Insects are beckoned by the smell but don’t drown. The pollinating insects can be easily released.
