Honey bee collecting pollen from heather
The core values of the Surrey Beekeepers Association are excellent care of our bees and responsible ownership.

However, our care of apiaries is not for harvesting honey. We make sure that our bees have, and play their part in, local biodiversity.

We focus on conservation. A good supply of nectar and pollen throughout the year enables the bees to make sufficient honey for winter. But their source of food needs to be sustainable to ensure their presence long term.

Bees need our support to avoid becoming stressed. We make sure they are healthy and free of bacteria and disease but with limited intervention. For example, we don’t believe in importing queens from abroad. Instead, we rear queens on our own or use UK breeders with good provenance.
